The Ultimate Spray Tan Prep Guide
When it comes to getting a spray tan, there are a few ways you can get yourself prepped to ensure that it will be your best and most long-lasting spray tan yet.
First, let us explain how a spray tan actually works…
How does a spray tan work?
A spray tan is a form of sunless tanning which gives you the ultimate golden glow through a gentle mist being sprayed on your body. The mist has an ingredient called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which interacts with your body’s natural chemistry to create the perfect tan. Results usually last anywhere from 3-7 days, and the process is completely safe. Spray tans are usually applied in small booths using airbrushes which allow your body to get a nice, even coating.
Now you know the process, here’s a few of our essential tips to get yourself ready for your spray tan appointment:
How do I prepare for a spray tan?
To prepare, remove any unwanted body hair from your body and exfoliate. Doing this will allow the spray tan to adhere more evenly to your skin. It is also recommended that you don’t use any perfumes or deodorants before your spray tan as these can affect the application. You should also ensure to exfoliate and moisturise skin the day before, especially around the drier patches, such as ankles and elbows.
What should I wear before and after my appointment?
It is really important to make sure you are wearing loose, comfortable black clothing – including cotton underwear. This will make it less likely for the tan to transfer on to your clothing, and easier to remove if it does. Flip flops or open-toed shoes are a must as anything too tight may strip the tan off your feet before you even get home!
What do I do after my spray tan to prolong it?
Making sure you shower effectively is key to prolonging your tan. Use lukewarm water and try to avoid any products that will leave residue on the skin as they may strip the colour sooner than you would like. When getting out of the shower, be sure to pat your skin dry with your towel rather than rub to ensure you maintain that even glow.
And there you have it! A perfect, even glow without damaging sunrays.
